Ahh… Vienna

Digital Nomad in Vienna

Welcome to Vienna

Vienna truly is an amazingly beautiful city!

OK, so the middle of winter is not an ideal time to go sightseeing in a European city but Vienna has captured my heart – the architecture, the people, the culture – it’s fabulous!

We decided to come here for a weekend getaway in celebration of my 60th birthday, quite a milestone in anyone’s language & Vienna over delivered in terms of memories that I will cherish for many years to come!

Our first day we headed into the city (10 minutes by train form our hotel) & immediately got tickets for “The Big Red Bus”. These doubl

e decker sightseeing tours are a great way to get to know about the history of a city. You can hop on and off as much as you like, for as long as your ticket is valid – we chose the 48 hour ticket (from a

choice of 1, 2, 3 or 7 day options) – & the running commentary is really informative. The tours operate in most major cities around the world now & I highly recommend them!

Let it snow!

There’s so much history in this pace – then again, this is Europe, the place is dripping with it!

Bonus! It was snowing most of day one & that really added something to the atmosphere as we explored the city (even though it detracted from the temperature!).

We dined, we even danced! My wife and I booked ourselves into a personal dance lesson to learn ……. how to Waltz! It’s not every day that you can claim to have learned to Waltz in Vienna!

Let the Music Play!

Oh, & whilst we’re at it, why not attend a classical music concert in an 18th Century stately concert hall? We are pulling out all the stops on this cultural experience!

We even decided to walk back to our hotel from the concert venue – in the snow! You can’t say that that isn’t romantic – it’s just how this 60 year old rolls!

Digital Nomad Ferris Wheel

On Top Of The World!

With Saturday out of the way (with way too many memories to pack in!), Sunday was upon us! We don’t fly out until 6pm, so we have the whole day to explore some more – starting with a trip to the amusement park where one of James Bond’s movies was filmed! We decided to hop aboard the Ferris wheel – one of the oldest and largest of its type in the world. The views of the now snow covered city were breathtaking!

Before we knew it, it was time to grab our luggage & head to the airport for our return home (to Frankfurt). This was a real blast! Note to self – be sure to come back here in summer & do all those things that cold weather puts a dampener on!

I must confess, I didn’t do any work at all these last couple of days – well it was a birthday celebration and, to be honest, Vienna was way too amazing to spend any time on a laptop!

But that is yet another one of the joys of this Nomad lifestyle, as long as you are disciplined enough to get things done that need to be, you don’t have to put in an eight hour day (or 10 or 12) or, for that matter, a 5 day week!
